The Canon C400 features a full-frame 6K Back-Side Illuminated (BSI) sensor with up to 16 stops of dynamic range. BSI sensors were originally developed for low-light security and astronomy cameras because they capture significantly more light than standard sensors. However, due to their complex construction, they were not widely used. This advanced technology, combined with the camera’s triple base ISO of 800, 3200, and 12800, makes the C400 excel in low-light environments.
The camera offers full-frame (6K), Super 35mm (4K), and Super 16mm (2K) sensor modes. It records Cinema RAW Light (12-bit in LT, ST, and HQ) at up to 60FPS in 6K full-frame and up to 100FPS in 4K Super 35mm. It can reach up to 120FPS when recording in 4K XF-AVC with 4:2:2 10-bit color.
Canon’s renowned color science enhances the C400’s image quality, with custom picture profiles such as Canon Log 2 and Log 3, ensuring excellent flexibility in post-production. Its built-in ND filter system offers 2 to 10 stops in extended mode.
The body is compact and weighs only 1.54 kg, offering a compact and robust design. The Dual Pixel CMOS AF II system enables reliable autofocus with compatible lenses and the C400 combines optical and digital 5-axis image stabilisation, making it perfect for run and gun shooting.
