The Iron Glass Carl Zeiss Jena lenses are based on classic German optical designs but were manufactured in the DDR, an origin that gives them their distinctive look
They are warm and deliver a gentle overall softness with pleasing focus fall-off and subtle vignetting, along with some chromatic aberration and a highly characterful bokeh. The bokeh is uniform in color, featuring a distinct soap-bubble ring and pronounced cat-eye shaping toward the edges
The Iron Glass MKII rehousing enhances close-focus performance and adds modern mechanics: a standardised 110 mm front diameter, a corrected focus direction to match professional cine standards and a new 15-blade iris
In terms of coverage, the 35mm, 50mm, and 80mm fully cover the Fujifilm GFX Eterna sensor in Open Gate. The 28mm shows an almost imperceptible vignette in the corners, while the 20mm covers the sensor in 16:9 format
